A New Chapter To A Fighting Fiction – BlazBlue: Central Fiction Announced

Three days ago a Japanese trailer for Arc System Works’s latest addition to the BlazBlue series cropped up on Youtube.

Given the subtitle Central Fiction, it looks to feature two new fighters: Hibiki Kohaku and Naoto Kurogane (no, no, not SHIRO-gane, don’t make the same mistake I did for half a minute). These names may be familiar to some, as Naoto did appear in a light novel called BlazBlue: Bloodedge Experience and Hibiki Kohaku was a support and back-up character for Kagura Mutsuki in BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma.

A Mugen Fighters Guild topic has also revealed a potential evil version of Konoe A. Mercury (Nine) flashed up at the end of the trailer. Could this be an additional fighter or an important plot point?

I admit I’ve never managed to get into BlazBlue, as it had a complex fighting system that simple me couldn’t work out. Despite this, it always existed as the rare fighting game that while I couldn’t play, it was entertaining enough to watch as its eccentric flare always appeared as a noticeable hook for those wanting to get into the genre. Looking at the trailer, it seems to be continuing on this tradition.

While there isn’t a release date, nor any known console plans, Siliconera has mentioned that the game’s first localisation test will begin on the 18th of July in Japan and last three days.
